These pieces have a variety of marks in orange, blue and green. Some of the textures are very interesting. They are 8” x 8” pieces in a 13” x 13” white frame with acid free mat. They can work as a group or individually. Although the oranges reminded me of fire, there is also a wavy line running through the pieces that feels more like water, thus the title of the series.

These pieces were a new experiment for me. One of the artists I follow uses this method of layering collage and paint, and scraping and making marks. Her name is Bibby Gignilliat and this series is based on her teaching. I love turquoise and orange together. And I love mark making.

15” x 15” mixed media on paper. These paintings are a series. They were painted as one large painting and then cropped into squares. I painted them as part of an exercise where you work very quickly, using a minimal palette and a variety of marks. They are made spontaneously without judgement. That contributes to their energy and liveliness.
Four of these are now custom framed in black with white mats and low glare art glass. Opening is 12” x 12”. Outer size of frame is 17” x 17”. Three additional pieces are available matted but not framed, or they can be framed if you wish.
Breezes 1 and Breezes 2 are the only ones that are framed in a black 17”x17” frame with a mat. The mark making in this series is less than I usually do. The colours are softer, but there is something ethereal about this series.

13” x 13” framed size. Mixed media on paper approx. 9” x 9”. One piece was painted, and then the smaller pieces were cut out and selected based on their compositions. The inspiration was a brightly coloured floral painting.

Rich and intense colours of pink, orange and purple form the ground of this abstract piece. Layers of colour and marks peek through but then are highlighted with a red spiraling mark. This was created in my northern studio on a sunny day to the music of David Bowie and shows the sense of abandon and joy I was feeling. Back to my younger days.
36” x 48” acrylic on canvas. My approach to painting is to be spontaneous and allow the painting to happen, without too much judgement. That is exactly how this painting came about.
Dramatic marks and energy are my trademarks. This painting is a different palette for me, but may appeal to those who like a soft blue. Unlike some of my mixed media work, this painting does not have any drawing on it. It is just expressive flowing paint.
30” x 30” x 1.5” Mixed Media on Wood panel. This piece is left raw, showing the paint and pastels that created the energy of the wind and water. The complementary colors of orange and turquoise make this feel pulled together.
30” x 30” mixed media on wood panel. I am usually bold and dramatic, so this is much more restrained for me. This painting is on top of an old painting that was a still life with bright colours. There is a lot of texture and interest from the paint underneath. The simplicity and softness of this piece would lend a sense of calm to a room. This piece would compliment “Yes” or “Stormy”, painted in similar tones.
40” x 30” mixed media on wood, gallery depth panel. I am in an experimental mode recently, going back and retrying old techniques. So I used some collage, some acrylic colours that I enjoy and added some marks that are common to some of my work. This piece has a lot of polka dots, which I find always make me smile. The painting is named Go! after some of the collage peeking through. I didn’t want to finish the sentence as I would like the viewers to fill it in.

I was trying to create a depth to the painting and to also show the actual brush marks on the surface level. More and more I am trying to show the process in the final painting and to rely on mostly paint rather than other mark making devices. This piece is called I Will Survive as sometimes when I am trying new things it feels like a battle with the painting, more than an easy flow.

24” x 24” acrylic on canvas. I’ve recently moved into my Studio in the Woods as I call it. It has amazing 2 story high windows on the west side. The first snowfall this winter happened in November and prompted me to paint a landscape painting, which is not what I usually paint. I had a lot of fun painting with blue, pink, purple and yellow.

36x36, mixed media on canvas. “David Hawkins, author of “Letting Go”, says “Letting go is like the sudden cessation of an inner pressure or the dropping of a weight”. He teaches how to let go of negative feelings and blocks and to unlock our innate capacities for happiness”. This painting typifies my process of letting go of a plan or an outcome, and just engaging with the immediate canvas and next steps to making a painting. I am hoping to take this practice back into my life so it can be as free as my art.
